Taekwondo player Baidhya to quit sports lifeA nationally and internationally renowned Taekwondo player Sangina Baidhya announced her retirement from her sports life Sunday morning at a program organized by National Sports Council at Dasharatha Stadium.
“As sports life has its beginning, it has its end, too,” said Baidhya, the first Nepali player to qualify for the Olympic Games, further adding that “I have formally decided to resign from my active participation in taekwondo from today onwards.” Baidhya, however, revealed in the ceremony that she would keep in touch with taekwondo as coach, official or referee.
Baidhya had started playing taekwondo in 1991 and took rest from it at the age of 34. She has bagged 10 gold medals in national games, 10 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronzes in international games so far. She had also qualified for Athens Olympics 2004.
